Richard Jason Ellis
If you're lookin' for someone that you can keep, well, baby pass me by. And if you want something that's twenty years deep, baby, don't even try. But if you want someone to take your soul, maybe lift you a little bit higher. I got the fire.

Richard Ellis

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Richard Jason Ellis (born October 18, 1979), known professionally as Rick "Nickname" Ellis, is an American mixed martial artist and renowned fighter in the Devil's Pit. He is best known for his mixed species fights, unafraid of any competition. As of 2010 he is considered a high profile fighter. He is also the leader of [sleuth name here].

Early Life

Rick was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Nancy (née Richards), a banker, and Charles Ellis, who worked in financing. An only child of successful parents, he attended a private boarding school where he quickly began making a name for himself. He compiled a record of 103-17 in four years of wrestling, including two state titles and a top ten finish at the regional level. He was also caption of his school's track and field team two years running, where he competed in javelin and shot put. As a child he also competed in judo and karate.

After high school, Richard attended Boston University on a wrestling scholarship where he also majored in financing. He received his masters degree in 2003. Set to follow in his father's footsteps, he later got a job in accounting while also working as a volunteer firefighter. In 2007 he gave up the comfortable office job to pursue firefighting professionally. He took a job with the Boston FD until 2012, where he was then transferred to the Linnfield Fire Department.

Devil's Pit Career

Rick began his Devil's Pit Career six years ago in 2008, where he quickly made a name for himself through demonstrations of raw power and natural talent. His years of competitive experience during childhood and his schooling career helped to give him an edge in amateur competition. Originally a regular participant in human form matches, he began his contention in same species fights during the summer of 2010. In 2011 he entered his first multi-species tournament, reaching the semi-finals before his powerful grizzly bear form was overtaken by the reigning werewolf champion of the time. 2013 saw his first multi-species title championship, and he is expected to be a top contender again in 2014.

His fighting style varies between forms. When shifted, he fights like a natural bear. Strong, powerful, with claws and teeth. He's not afraid to tear into his opponents or catch them by the throat. In human form Rick demonstrates far more trained skill. He draws on the techniques of wrestling, karate, kickboxing, and judo in his own blend of mixed martial marts. He also breaks every cardinal rule in the book, not afraid to fight dirty. He can use his opponents weight against him and, while he lacks speed he is consistent in power. His signature technique is to grapple his opponent into a hold and punch until they black out, using his werebear strength to his advantage.

Personal Life

A self-proclaimed adrenaline junkie, Ellis lives for the natural high. He craves dangerous and extreme situations, always pushing his body to the limit. He moved to Cape Haven in 2012 when he transferred departments, taking up residence in a rustic beach house overlooking the ocean. The small town life doesn't really suit him, but he makes due for the sake of his job. Rick Ellis is a workaholic. He lives to fight fires and save burning lives, an ironic notion when you consider his favorite past time. His outer personal is a perfectly crafted facade, a heroic shell meant to hide the darkness within. People who don't know him praise him. People who do know him fear the sort of man he can be. Do to his love for the lifestyle surrounding the Pit, he keeps a second residence in Boston, a modest apartment.

As stated previous, Rick takes his job very seriously. There is little in life that gives him more satisfaction than conquering a roaring blaze. Firefighting is also how he first entered the world of the Devil's Pit. Fights were an easy way to make money, regardless of how legal it was. It was a thrill and an easy cash supply. The werebear donates roughly 70 percent of all his earnings to the Linnfield FD, helping to supply uniforms and resources, even funding a new rig. It's no secret that money is tight, especially for more community based departments. Rick does what he can to secure his job. The rest of the time he simply does what he wants.

As of 2014 Richard Ellis is unattached. He had several brief relationships with women of varying backgrounds, but he was quoted saying, "I'm a career bachelor. Got no desire to settle down. Why tie myself to one woman when there's plenty of me to go around?" A bit vain and narcissistic, reports circling his love life turn up rumors of emotional abuse and physical violence. Rick is and continues to be an upstanding citizen outside of the ring, however. Charges have never been brought against him.

Awards and Titles

2008 | Outstanding Rookie
2010 | Finalist Human Form Tournament
2011 | Semi-Finalist Multi-Species Tournament
2012 | Human Form Championship Title, Quarter-Finalist Werebear Tournament
2013 | Werebear Championship Title, Multi-Species Championship Title

Richard Ellis is not without controversy. He is aggressive in the ring, known to not hesitate should he need to take the life of his opponent. The Devil's Pit is a ruthless environment but it is one he thrives in. The real critique, however, lies in the fact that Ellis is not a born werecreature. Many dislike his impure lineage and blame his successes on cheating and dirty tricks. The truth is Ellis is a trained fighter.

In August of 2006, Rick and his crew were called to a structure fire that encompassed a several story apartment building. Rick was one of the first men to enter the blaze, carrying out search and rescue operations. Upon locating a small boy his focus became to save the child. He battled blazing flames and falling support beams in order to bring the child to safety. Finding the boy's family, however, was a more difficult process. Rick had removed his face piece so as to frighten the child less, but it was too late. Terrified and temperamental, the child bit Rick on the nose. It wouldn't be until the next full moon that the firefighter understood what that bite meant. His first transformation was painful, warping his body into the shape of a grizzly bear. Subsequent transformations became easier with time, but Rick dedicates a large amount of time to training and learning control.

Congratulations and welcome to Chalice!
It's amazing how a character with good intentions can turn out to be someone you just want to hate. Rick is the perfect example of this. He's brutal and mean, and yet, he's just doing what he loves to do and is a hero in the eyes of many. He's a well rounded character for sure. I feel bad for his enemies, and not much better for those he considers allies. Anyway, he should bring some drama to Cape Haven, that's for sure. Rick is accepted~
Now that your character has been accepted, please be sure to fill out the face claim and who's who!
